Two New Workshops Announced for January 2020!

Planning Your Backyard Cutting Garden Workshop at Botanique in Seattle, WA- January 4th, 2020

PLANNING YOUR BACKYARD CUTTING GARDEN Saturday, January 4th 2020 from 1pm-5pm at the Botanique Studio and Cutting Garden

You are excited to grow flowers in your backyard, but where do you begin? How do you know how many seeds to plant? How to organize your beds? How do you best utilize the space you have? What infrastructure do you need to put in place before you even plant anything to insure your flowers will thrive? How do you make sure you have something blooming all season long? What plants perform best for a cutting garden in Seattle? These are just a few of the questions I have been asked over the years in regards to planning a backyard cutting garden. This is a great time of year to get organized and come up with a solid plan for your garden, so that you start the growing season feeling confident and excited!

In this workshop, Kelly Sullivan will walk you through her process for planning a backyard cutting garden. She will break it down into a simple process, teaching the essentials you need to know to get your garden started and blooming this year! Topics covered will include mapping out your garden, selecting the right plants to keep your garden blooming all year long, creating a seed starting calendar, proper plant spacing, overview of cutting garden plants, seed and plant sourcing, and more. Kelly will also share her favorite cutting garden plants, give you planning resources you can continue to use for future years, and provide everyone with the support they need to leave the workshop with a personalized cutting garden plan in hand. Each participant will also receive a curated selection of some of Kelly's favorite seeds to get your garden started! This class is intended for home gardeners, floral designers dabbling in growing flowers, and anyone who wants to learn the essentials for successfully planning a backyard cutting garden. Registration will be capped at 10 participants, and early registration is advised.

WHEN AND WHERE: Saturday, January 4th, 2020 from 1pm-5pm at The Botanique Cutting Garden and Design Studio INVESTMENT: $225 (early bird registration before 12/15/19) or $250 (regular price after 12/15/19) includes four hours of instruction and assistance/support as you plan out your garden, planning handouts, resource list, seed starting calendar, materials for you to use doing the workshop to plan out your garden space (yes, we'll be doing this the "old-fashioned way," with paper and a pencil!), a list of Kelly's favorite cutting garden plants, a curated selection of seeds to get you started with your cutting garden this year, and light refreshments.

NOTE: You will get the most out of this workshop if you come knowing the approximate dimensions of the space you plan to grow flowers in next year. This is not mandatory, and you will still learn a lot without this information! However there will be time devoted to mapping out the physical space you have to work with, and knowing the space you have available will be very helpful.

I have been growing cut flowers to use in Botanique's design work for the past eight years, and have had so many questions over the years about garden planning. I hope you can join me for this workshop to get those questions answered and get your garden off to a great start!

Winter Flowers Floral Design Workshop at Botanique in Seattle, WA

WINTER FLOWERS DESIGN WORKSHOP Sunday, January 26th 2020 from 10am-12:30pm at the Botanique Studio and Cutting Garden

It's winter, the time of year when the garden is largely dormant, and we most long for the beauty and fragrance of flowers. Unexpected as it may seem, this is a very exciting time of year for flowers! Bare trees make way for unique, textural berries and branches, fragrance abounds in early spring bulbs like hyacinth and heirloom narcissus, and there are a bevy of local, greenhouse-grown roses- the perfect antidote to winter blues! Join Kelly Sullivan of Botanique for a morning of floral arranging in our intimate, South Seattle studio, where you will learn how to create a beautiful, layered arrangement full of movement and texture using seasonal flowers and materials. Kelly will guide you through her design process, and each participant will make their own arrangement to take home- the perfect way to welcome the new year! This class is open to all levels, but geared towards beginning and intermediate designers and/or anyone who wants to learn some new design tricks or get a fresh dose of inspiration for how to design during the winter months when materials are more limited.  Registration will be capped at 10 participants, and early registration is advised.

WHEN AND WHERE: Sunday, January 26th, 2020 from 10am-12:30pm at The Botanique Cutting Garden and Design Studio INVESTMENT: $225 (early bird registration before 1/5/20) or $265 (regular price starting on 1/5/20) includes all flowers, materials and tools needed to create your own arrangement, and light refreshments.
